It's that time of the year when all I want to do is read holiday romances and watch all the cheesy holiday movies. This year, I'm starting earlier than usual because why the heck not? I thought starting off my holiday reading spree with one of my favorite authors would be the best decision and of course, Therese Beharrie never disappoints me. His Princess by Christmas was just the wholesome romance novel with all the holiday feels that my grinch heart desired! It's full of tropey goodness and is sure to leave you feeling all bright and positive.

I don't normally read royalty romances. The only exceptions are Alyssa Cole and Therese Beharrie. I think my reasoning for that is because these books can easily venture into too cheesy for my own tastes. I trust Therese Beharrie though because she manages to make stories are fresh and steers clear from the cheese. In His Princess by Christmas, Kade, a prince of a small fictional African kingdom, shows up at Amari's trinket store's doorstep, seeking a temporary job. His mother, the Queen, is about to abdicate her crown and Kade will have to step in. It's a lot of responsibilities to shoulder and Kade is admittedly nervous about the prospect. In an attempt to enjoy the last few days of his freedom, he shows up in Amari's small town. What he doesn't anticipate, however, is falling for the beautiful single mother.

I always adore this author's characters because she takes her time to flesh them out. I felt so much for Amari, who cared deeply about her daughter's happiness, while also endlessly worrying that her ex-husband will come back into her life. She has a built a life for herself and her daughter in their small town but has often overlooked her own happiness. When Kade shows up, she can't deny the attraction and connection she feels towards him. He makes her comfortable and is so gentle and caring towards her. Honestly, these two were so soft together. I feel like I could read about two equally soft characters falling for each other all the time and never tire of it. Therese writes characters who are kind and Kade, though he is royalty, is incredibly compassionate. The way he was attuned to Amari's emotions was super endearing. The two do face a couple of challenges, the major one being discovered kissing by a reporter, following which Kade takes Amari and her daughter to his kingdom. Though this felt like an obstacle at first, it provides the perfect opportunity for the love-birds to get to know each other and eventually fall in love. Their time at the palace was my favorite. It made me giddy and my heart was just very full!

If you enjoy Hallmark holiday movies, royalty, and books about gentle characters who deserve all the happiness falling in love with each other with a Christmas backdrop, please don't miss out on His Princess by Christmas. You won't regret it!
