Hudson and MacKenna for life! I consider Brighton Walsh a favorite author and she has yet to disappoint me. Captain Heartbreaker was a sexy second chance romance that had me swooning and it was a great installment to the Havenbrook series.

Shortly before Hudson enlisted in the army and left Havenbrook, he and his best friend, MacKenna have a hot and heavy relationship. Ten years later, Hudson is back in his hometown ready to win over the girl that he never stopped loving. Umm you guys, I'm gonna act all drooly over Hudson because holy hotness! The man had a way with words and certainly knew how to woo a woman. When I tell you his dirty mouth left me flustered, I do mean furiously flushing red flustered. He was super hot! He wasn't just attractive because of the things he said, but he had this softer side to him. It took him a while but he realizes that his reasons for enlisting weren't anything to do with his passion, but more to do with following his in his father's footsteps. He struggles with these conflicting feelings throughout the book and they are further complicated by the fact that he does not want to leave MacKenna for a second time.

MacKenna was a girl after my own heart. She was full of sass and fire, but also a little lost in life. She struggled with her self-worth, especially because she hasn't had a stable career nor did she know what she wanted out of life. A lot of it stemmed from the pressure she felt growing up from her father, and part of it was also because she didn't see where her true talents lay. I felt for Mac and I wanted her to see what a smart and wonderful person she was. She really grows into her character throughout Captain Heartbreaker and I was super proud of her.

Hudson and MacKenna's chemistry was so fiery. 10 years may have passed before these two reunited but the passion and tension had only ignited further. They were very hot together! Not only did they have some seriously steamy sexy times, but their emotional tie to each other was palpable in every scene. You could tell that these two just clicked together like a lock and a key because they were terrific together in every way. They obviously had to work through their individual challenges as well as the challenges they faced as a couple. I think every aspect of their relationship was handled very well.

Captain Heartbreaker was the kind of romance book that let me disappear from the real world for a few hours and left me feeling very warm and fuzzy. If you're looking for some low-on-the-drama, sexy, and swoony small-town romance series, I will certainly push you towards the Havenbrook books.
