The Weekly Recap (50): A Mentally-Draining Week

Sunday, August 25, 2019

Hi friends!

I hope you are all doing well. It's been a mentally-draining week for me. My grandmother fell suddenly ill last weekend and she asked to see my dad. He booked a flight Saturday and got on a flight Sunday. Her condition is still not stable - she has ups and downs, and it's been a very sad situation. My mom and I miss my dad, but we know that being with my grandma at this time is the most important. I'm thankful that he is not alone over there. He has all of his siblings to help him navigate this. My dad is not the most comfortable man with his emotions, so we've been worried for him. He does call us a few times a day to check in. Between being stressed out for him and for my grandmother's health, it's not been the easiest week for my mother and I. We're trying our best not to worry too much, but it's hard. I wish I could be there with him, but I couldn't for multiple reasons including the exorbitant prices of tickets at the moment.

I've been trying to distract myself from everything by focusing on work. That has created some other frustrations for me, mainly due to a lack of communication with our data manager. I've been doing my portion of the work so hopefully no one complains that I haven't done enough. Other than, I've been studying for my dissertation work. On a lighter note, I made dinner for my mom on Thursday and she was so surprised I could cook. Her reaction both mildly offended me and cracked me up! She loved the cheesy one-pot jalapeƱo chicken I made us.

Here are my reading updates for the week:
Week In Reading

Spin the Dawn (The Blood of Stars, #1) Faker The Downstairs Girl

I only read two books this week, Spin the Dawn and Faker. I loved Spin the Dawn so much. It was one of the most engrossing books I've read in a while. I think the tagline of Mulan meets Project Runway is spot on. Faker was also very fun. I'm also reading The Downstairs Girl right now and I'm enjoying it.
