The Weekly Recap (34): My First Professional Conference

Sunday, March 31, 2019

Hi friends!

I hope you are all doing well. I am so sorry about the inconsistent postings lately. I've just been bombarded with things left and right and I've barely had much time to breathe. The week before, I spent my time working on finals. I had one project that seriously sucked the life out of me. I kept working on it until the day it had to be submitted. Then, I had to rush to complete a poster for a presentation at a conference on Sunday. I was worried that it would take me forever to do that too since it was based on a project that I worked on nearly two years ago, but I thankfully kept good notes and still had everything saved. I also decided to volunteer for the conference since they were looking for some people. I was at the conference Saturday through Wednesday. It was definitely a very inspiring experience for me. I was in awe of the amazing work that people were doing and I learned a lot. I'm grateful I got to go. The poster session on Sunday also went fairly well. I get very nervous around people I don't know, so I was concerned that I would be a mess when people asked questions, but I managed not to embarrass myself - haha! As interesting the conference was, I was definitely beat at the end of each day. I walked so much, my feet ached! Luckily, they did shower us with snacks, cupcakes, and happy hours on most days as a reward! Plus, my friends and I got to do brunch on Saturday and dim-sum on Monday. So, it was all worth the exhaustion.

This week was technically supposed to be spring break for me but with the conference and the multiple work meetings and presentations I had to prep for, I didn't get a break. I'm a little bit sad about that. But what can I do? A new term will start for me on Monday, which means new classes. I always love the start of a new term, but I have to admit, I'm nervous because the classes are going to be tough. Next weekend, I also have to make a trip to Alabama for a meeting. I'll be gone Sunday through Wednesday. I've never been to Alabama, so I'm looking forward to it (especially the Southern food!), and also to having a hotel room to myself! If I don't have a post next week, this is why!

Let's get to my reading updates!

My reading has been fairly sad these past two weeks, but I've learned that I need to stop feeling guilty. I have a life outside of blogging and reading, so it's not the end of the world. It also helps me be selective with the books I want to read. Anyways, these were all pretty great!
