It's been a good while since I have read a Jeaniene Frost novel, but I've been in the mood for paranormal romance, especially ones with vampires, lately. I thought Shades of Wicked would be the perfect dive for me since it seemed to be exactly what I wanted. This book was an awesome ride and I'm glad that I took a chance on me. I can't wait to see what the author does next with the series.

We had an interesting opposites-attract couple in this book in the form of Ian and Veritas. I enjoyed Ian's voice quite a bit. A master vampire, he was shameless and quite ... naughty! I mean, the book did open up with him being in the middle of some sort of wild orgy party. Ian was much more than that though. As the story progressed, we got to see the fiercely loyal guy that he was. He maintained his sass and his cockiness, but he also began to show his more vulnerable side and damn, if that did not do things to me. We get to see much of his struggles now that his soul belongs to a demon and how the fact internally ate at him. His only form of hope was Veritas, a lawmaker in this vampire world, who has her own reasons for wanting to seek Ian's help. Veritas was much more of a stoic and straightforward character. While I did like the idea of her, I sometimes felt like I couldn't 100% gauge her emotions. That being said, I didn't dislike her character. I only wish I had the opportunity to become more in synch with her.

As far as the romance went, I thought Ian and Veritas clicked well together. They were opposites in many ways, but there parts of their personalities that made them good for each other. The chemistry was strong and palpable throughout much of the book. I enjoyed the banter between them and the way they pushed each other's buttons. These two got into trouble a lot throughout Shades of Wicked as they ventured out to find the demon and though it did stress me out watching them face danger, I was glued to the pages of the book. The final couple of scenes in the book had my heart racing and that ending had me internally screaming. The wait for the next book is going to be pure torture! It's been a while since I have read the Night Huntress series, but Frost did a decent job at recapping much of the world. If you haven't read that series, but still want to read this one, I wouldn't worry too much about missing anything substantial.

Shades of Wicked was an addicting read and it satisfied the vampire craving that I have had lately. Action, romance and lots and lots of revelations abound in this book- so, you know this is a fun read.

Are you excited that vampires are making a comeback?
